Coffee "Davidoff": reviews, range, manufacturer

Origin story

The founding father of the brand is Zinovy Davidoff. In the beginning, coffee production was out of the question. The family of a Kyiv Jew was engaged exclusively in the tobacco business until 1911. After emigration to Geneva, the family moved to the USA. In the United States, the family business quickly gained momentum, and after some time the Davidoff tobacco empire grew to unprecedented proportions.

It is believed that the heyday of the company was the Second World War. Zinovy, together with his son Chaim, developed his own mixtures and accessories for cigarettes. A little later, Davidoff watches and the famous coffee of the same name appeared on sale.

Origin of the brand

The history of the brand goes back more than a hundred years: the company, which at that time had a much narrower specialization, began its existence in 1912. The Davidoff brand was founded by Zinovy Davydov, who was born in Kyiv, and subsequently emigrated with his family to Geneva and soon changed his first and last name to Zino Davidoff.

Brand founder Zino Davidoff

His father was engaged in the sale of tobacco and cigarettes of various types. Zino Davidoff followed in his footsteps: he traveled to South America, where he studied technologies for growing various varieties of tobacco. After this, Zino went to Cuba, where he stayed for 5 years and became an expert in the tobacco business. Returning home to Switzerland in 1929, he took over the family business after the death of his father.

In 1946, the company released the first branded line of Davidoff cigars, which conquered not only Europe but also America with their quality. In the 1980s, Zino Davidoff began producing luxury goods such as perfume, cognac, glasses, watches, and writing instruments. Since the 1990s, the company began producing coffee from selected Arabica beans.

Today the owner is Tchibo Company

After Zino's death in 1994, the Davidoff tobacco and coffee brands were acquired from his heirs by the German company Tchibo. Now coffee is produced by this coffee magnate under license in Germany and some other European countries.

In Fine Aroma, only ten percent is Robusta. Therefore, the taste and aroma of this coffee resembles real 100% Arabica coffee. Rich Aroma has eighty percent Arabica.

You can purchase the product in any supermarket or in a specialty store. This brand has quite a lot of fans who prefer to buy this particular product.

Cost of coffee

The brand's products belong to the middle price segment, but the cost is higher than that of competitors, since the manufacturer positions them as elite. At the same time, prices do not go into the luxury goods segment, so everyone can afford to buy Davidoff coffee.

Average cost of unlimited editions of the drink:

  1. Ground and beans – 400-500 rub./250 g.
  2. Instant (glass jar) – 500 rub./100 g.
  3. Capsules – 400-500 rub./10 pcs.

Davidoff coffee is worth trying, especially since 80% of those who have already done so recommend this drink to their friends. The company's specialists work hard and hard to ensure that the result meets all expectations. That is why special attention is paid to all details: from the region where coffee beans are collected and where they are roasted to packaging design.

Price, taste and packaging

Despite the fact that the product is packaged in a rather high-status package, its quality leaves much to be desired. Judging by the reviews, Davidoff coffee does not have a unique Arabica aroma, although the product consists almost entirely of this variety. Moreover, not only experts, but also ordinary buyers think so. In addition, after drinking the drink, an unpleasant bitterness is felt in the mouth, which, if desired, can be overcome with milk or sugar. Despite the variety of varieties, tasters note the similarity of all types of Davidoff coffee to each other. They are practically the same and do not have much difference.

The product is designed quite attractively and elegantly. Glass jars have elongated lids and a non-standard shape. The price of the product corresponds to the middle class, although it is positioned as an elite one.

Are there fake Davidoff coffees on the Russian market?

No evidence of obvious counterfeiting of Davidoff coffee was found on the Internet. Cognac and perfumes of this brand are usually counterfeited.

To identify a fake, you should pay special attention to the packaging.

To distinguish genuine coffee from fake coffee, you need to pay attention to some signs. For an obvious counterfeit:

  • unevenly glued labels;
  • The barcode of the product does not match the country of manufacture indicated on the packaging;
  • The font on the labels and the product is unclear and blurry. There are errors in the translation into Russian.

To be sure of the quality of the product, you should open the official website of the brand and compare it.

Origin of raw materials

As already mentioned, the company uses 100% Arabica beans to produce Davidoff coffee. This variety is grown in Ethiopia. It is there, between the northern and southern tropics, that the plantations of the famous product are located. A province in Ethiopia called Kafa (from which coffee gets its name) also supplies raw materials for Davidoff's production. Rich Aroma Espresso 57 coffee is made from beans grown in Latin America. The product undergoes a special roasting developed by the manufacturers.

Davidoff instant coffees include Espresso 57, Fine Aroma, Rich Aroma, Creation Superieure and Ethiopian Highlands. They consist of grains of American and African origin. Ground is presented in similar types, with the addition of Limited Edition. The grains include Espresso 57 and Rich Aroma from Davidoff coffee.

A few words about the brand

The founder of the company is called Chaim Davydov. In his homeland, he started a business selling tobacco and cigars. Having a natural flair and excellent taste, he managed to create excellent mixtures that quickly sold out.

Subsequently, the family emigrated to Switzerland, where the business was continued. As a result, management of the company passed to the eldest son, Zinovy, who previously studied tobacco business in America. Where he was sent for training by his father.

Business acumen was passed from father to son - when Zinovy took the reins of the company, he established the supply of elite cigars from Cuba and Argentina. To do this, he had to take considerable risks and resort to borrowed capital. But this is not the only difficulty. In order for the products to travel a considerable distance, it was necessary to resolve the issue of spoilage. Zinovy came up with a special packaging that allowed the cigars to maintain their presentation.

The company gained even greater popularity during the Second World War, becoming, in fact, the only supplier of elite cigars.

At the moment, the Davidoff brand has 26 production plants, and more than 1000 points of sale have permission to sell their products.

The products appeared in our country in the 2000s, and quite quickly occupied the niche of grocery sales. Of course, premium quality products.

I tried Davidoff coffee back in 2007. After that, there was no thought to try another variety. I only drink it. I like the taste and aroma.

Kirill, Tyumen.

I have tried all types of Davidoff coffee. If you want to find your taste, try it. Very big difference in taste. For example, Rich Aroma is for lovers of strong, bitter coffee. I don't like this one. I settled on softer options.

Reviews

Maryana: I’m not a fan of instant coffee, but I liked Davidoff. There is no acid or burnt taste, which is very pleasing. The foam is so chic and the aroma is very similar to the one that hovers in coffee shops. True, the price is impressive. Besides the taste, I liked the packaging - such an elegant glass jar. I received it as a present along with a branded black cup and plate, so I enjoy the drink according to all the rules.

Inessa: Not bad coffee, worth the price. Saw ground Rich Aroma is a classic among all varieties of the brand. The taste is good, multifaceted, the aroma is also good, you can feel that the beans are not overcooked, I recommend it to connoisseurs of good coffee.

Olga: I liked it too. I also bought ground, it was just on sale. I didn’t expect anything special, just like from other auction items, but this one is an exception. I liked both the aroma and the taste. It’s even surprising that such a worthy product was found on the supermarket shelf.

Lyudmila: With a stretch, I can say that the Davidoff that is sold in Russia is an elite product. It is far from what they drink in Germany and Switzerland.

Range

Davidoff's coffee product line includes ground, grain and instant drinks. The assortment is not too large, but coffee lovers will have plenty to choose from. Moreover, all packaging looks exceptionally noble, expensive and attractive. By the way, limited editions of Davidoff coffee with special flavors are regularly released. An interesting gift for lovers of something unique, valuable and exclusive.

Espresso 57

Perhaps the most recognizable product of the brand. Made from 100% Arabica from plantations in South and Central America. The aroma has subtle chocolate tones, the taste has a slight pleasant sourness. The body is dense, the aftertaste has notes of cocoa.

Fine Aroma

Ground and instant, described as Central and South American Arabica. Delicate and at the same time rich aroma, light acidity. For those who want to get the most aromatic pleasure from their favorite drink.

Rich Aroma

Instant and ground, a blend of Arabica beans with maximum aroma - rich, dense, thick. Great for waking you up in the morning and invigorating you throughout the day. The body is dense, with some sourness remaining in the aftertaste.

Cafe Creme

The delicate taste is still the same as Arabica, only now in whole beans. When ground and cooked, they produce a smooth, golden-brown crema. Noble aroma, exquisite taste - for those who like to enjoy the moment.

Crema Intense

This Davidoff instant coffee combines the characteristic taste of full-bodied espresso with elegant acidity and subtle aroma. Smooth, velvety, golden-colored crema adds extra pleasure to every sip.

Capsules

There are three options at once for those who use Nespresso capsule coffee machines.

  • Prestige is a darker, more intense roast espresso, a blend of Arabica and Robusta. A refreshing balance of quality and distinctive taste.
  • Elegance – lighter roasting, the grains better reveal their flavor and aromatic properties. The purest Arabica, which acquires a delicate foam in the cup.
  • Style Lungo – Lungo is essentially espresso, but made with more water. Less strong, but with more bitterness. A very interesting taste for a connoisseur.

Before purchasing, check on the website whether these capsules are compatible with your specific coffee machine; there are not many options available.

Reviews from fans

There are many reviews about the Davidoff brand on the Internet. Having carefully studied them, we can come to the conclusion that everyone who tried this product was divided into two camps: the first found it noble and tasty, although unusual, the second found it sour and did not live up to expectations.

For example, one coffee lover calls Davidoff the gold standard and highlights the rich taste and aroma that other types of coffee do not have. The author appreciated the pleasant astringency and absence of extraneous aromas in the finished drink.

Not all coffee connoisseurs like the sour taste

In one of the reviews, the author claims that Davidoff brand coffee supplied to Russian markets is significantly inferior in quality and taste to the product sold in Europe and America. The author states that he personally compared the taste of the drinks.

In another review, the aroma and taste of Davidoff coffee is called not very pronounced and lacks any zest. The sourness of the drink is emphasized, which also did not delight the consumer. In general, Davidoff coffee is characterized as a product “for everyone.”

Brand of coffee for everyone

Many of those who shared reviews of this coffee indicate that the product’s packaging is promising, but deceptive: lured by the appearance and the well-known brand name, commentators were dissatisfied with the quality of the finished drink due to the lack of richness and strong acidity of the taste.

How did Davidoff appear?

The founder of the DAVIDOFF brand was first involved in the tobacco and perfume business. It was only years later that he began producing Davidoff coffee.

One Swiss man, Chaim, combined different types of tobacco and successfully traded them. Good tobacco was popular among many residents, and after some time, Heim’s business began to generate great income.

By that time, the merchant’s son had already grown up and his father sent him to America to study tobacco business. Five years later, Zinovy returned to his native land with experience and high knowledge. To open his own business, the son took money from the bank. He was successfully supplied with Cuban, Argentine and Guatemalan cigars. Rich and famous people became Zinovy's regular clients. To prevent the cigars from deteriorating during long transportation, he packed them in special sealed boxes.

Capsule coffee drinks

Especially for those who like to enjoy coffee from Nespresso capsule coffee machines, the Davidoff company offers sophisticated and luxurious drinks in three types:

  1. Prestige with Robusta and Arabica, with a dark and intense roast. Espresso drinks with awakening and tonic notes. They have a distinctive taste and harmony of the blend.
  2. Elegance with light roasted pure Arabica beans. The drinks come out with the most delicate foam.
  3. Style Lungo – Lungo is not exactly strong. Espresso drinks require a lot of water. They will have a bitterness, and an intense one at that.
