The taste of coffee is born in the coffee grinder, so the choice of the kitchen device we are considering should be approached with particular seriousness. There are three types of coffee grinders on the market, differing in appearance and control method:

The more common models are rotary-type devices; coffee is ground using rotary knives that spin at high speed, crushing the fragrant beans. In this case, regulation of the degree of grinding depends on the duration of operation of the rotary knives. In other words, the more they spin, the finer the grind. The main disadvantage of this method is the inhomogeneity of grinding. The capacity of knife devices is usually less than 120g.

Millstones use conical or cylindrical millstones. They work like a mill - the grains, falling between the millstones, are crushed and ground into small particles. The degree of grinding is regulated independently, and depends on the distance between the millstones. In this case, the degree of grinding is fairly uniform. The capacity of these models is up to 300 g of coffee beans. Among all coffee grinders, this type of device is the most popular.

The main advantage that distinguishes a burr coffee grinder from a rotary one is the presence of a container for ready-made ground coffee.

A manual coffee grinder is a good way to get the right portion of the freshest, well-ground coffee. The manual version of the device consists of two millstones, one of which is attached to the bottom, and the second is rotated by a handle. The advantage of a coffee grinder is that you cannot “burn” the coffee in it. Pour in the beans, turn the handle and in 15-20 minutes you get ready-made coffee powder, which is poured into a specially designed container.

How to prepare ground coffee correctly?

There are three main methods that allow you to prepare coffee correctly, without any bitterness or astringency, at home.

  1. Immediately in the cup. First, warm the bottom and walls of the mug. This can be done by rinsing the dishes with boiling water. Then pour in ground coffee, the structure of which should be as fine as dust. Fill with hot water, cover the cup with a saucer or a special lid and leave to infuse. Two or three minutes will be enough. During this time, the grounds will completely settle. At the end, add sugar to taste.
  2. Using a French press. This method is the easiest and fastest. First, rinse the container again, in this case a glass glass. For a volume of 0.5 liters, add 1-2 teaspoons of ground coffee. Focus on the desired strength of the drink. Make sure that the mesh inside the French press does not become clogged. Tip: For this method, it is best to use coarsely ground coffee. Fill with water and mix everything thoroughly using a plunger. This way you get a richer aroma. Leave the drink for three minutes, pour into cups, add sugar if necessary and enjoy.
  3. In Turk. This method of preparing ground coffee is considered the most difficult, but also the most correct. First, warm the Turk over the fire, this will take about 2 minutes. Then add 1 or 1.5 tablespoons of powder and sugar to taste. Pour cold, highly purified water into the resulting mixture. The worse the water, the worse the taste of the drink - remember this. Then put the Turk on low heat and warm it up. Do not let the coffee boil over. Control the formation of foam and bubbles. As soon as they appear on the surface and edges, the coffee is ready.

Another secret that professional baristas use is water temperature. Do not bring it to a boil; a temperature of 95-97 degrees is more than enough. The boiling process spoils the taste of coffee.

Additionally, you can add a whisper of nutmeg, cinnamon or cocoa to your coffee.
