The most popular of the cream liqueurs and one of the most famous alcoholic drinks in Ireland. What do you drink Baileys with? Like other liqueurs, it is good on its own as a digestif (at the end of a meal).

You can also enjoy it with a few ice cubes. And this is just the beginning of the list of what Baileys liqueur is drunk with - many more interesting options await you below.

Who invented Baileys?

In the early 1970s.
Irishman David Dend, who holds the post of top manager of the alcoholic beverages importing company Gilbeys of Ireland, came up with the idea of creating a new alcoholic product, which had no analogues in the world. He saw the two prides of Ireland as the main components of the future drink: whiskey and heavy cream. Together with a team of like-minded people, which included Tom Yago, Matt McPherson, Steve Wilson and David Gluckham, Dend began experimenting with the composition and quantity of ingredients.

Baileys is an Irish cream liqueur.

The first batch of Baileys was created at home using a mixer. The experimenters liked the taste, aroma and thickness of the drink, but it was too early to put it into mass production, since it could not be stored for a long time. It took Dend and his team 3 years to ensure that when mixing whiskey with cream, the latter did not sour or separate, and the final product did not turn into flakes.

As a result, in 1974, Dend introduced the world's first cream liqueur. It quickly won the hearts of lovers of strong drinks and soon began to be supplied to different countries. It was named after the Baileys Bistro cafe, next to which there was a place where experiments were carried out to create the product.

When should liqueur be served?

Baileys belongs to the category of digestifs, i.e. alcoholic drinks that are served after meals. It is placed on the table with sweets, and sometimes instead of them. In addition, liqueur can be added to dessert or coffee.

Drinking Baileys after finishing a meal is justified by the fact that it stimulates the digestive process and promotes long-term satiety. This effect is achieved due to the low alcohol content and the presence of carbohydrates in the drink.

But if Baileys is the main one on the table (for example, during a meeting of two friends in a cafe), then it is appropriate to serve it right away. In this case, you can order your favorite cake or ice cream with alcohol.

Liquor glasses

Before serving alcohol, it is important to figure out which glasses to drink it from.
The Irish drink undiluted liqueur in small glasses with elongated, streamlined stems. The capacity of such containers is 25-30 ml. Drink the creamy drink slowly and in small sips to prolong the pleasure of its taste longer. If Baileys is served diluted, then it is poured into large glasses intended for cocktails or martinis. To make the serving spectacular, the edges of the containers are decorated with chocolate chips, pieces of berries or fruits.

Correct temperature

The optimal temperature for Irish liqueur is 18-22 °C. It brings out the maximum flavor of the drink.

Baileys with ice and cocoa

If desired, Baileys can be cooled a little before serving by adding a little crushed ice to the shot glass or glass.
To make the drink look more impressive, sprinkle a thin layer of cocoa powder on top. You shouldn’t get too carried away with ice, otherwise the sugar present in the alcoholic product will crystallize under the influence of cold and precipitate.

What should I mix Baileys with?

Baileys can be mixed with a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
But, before combining it with anything, you need to remember that juices, mineral and carbonated waters cannot be added to Irish liqueur. The acids, carbon dioxide and microelements they contain can cause separation of the cream, which is the basis of Baileys, and this will negatively affect its appearance and taste.

Milk

If the taste of the liqueur is too sweet and cloying, cow's milk will help soften it.
To prepare the cocktail, mix 3 parts Baileys with 1 part milk. If desired, the ratio of ingredients can be changed, guided by your own taste preferences.

Coffee with liqueur

Freshly brewed hot coffee will acquire a new taste if you add 1-2 tsp to it instead of milk and sugar. cream liqueur. The invigorating drink can be supplemented with a pinch of cinnamon or vanilla, and topped with whipped cream and grated chocolate.

This version of the cocktail has warming properties and is well suited for the cold season. But it is important to remember that it contains alcohol, so you should drink it with caution and preferably not early in the day.

Vodka cocktail

By diluting the liqueur with vodka, you can increase its strength and reduce its sweetness.
Most often, men prefer this option for using Baileys. The ratio of components is adjusted at your own discretion, but the classic combination is 1:1. When preparing a cocktail, Baileys is first poured into the glass, then the remaining space is filled with vodka. The drink is not mixed. It is set on fire and drunk through a straw until the fire goes out.

Gin

Gin, like vodka, has a neutral taste, which makes it go well with Baileys. You can prepare a cocktail based on these ingredients in the same way as in the previous version.

Ice cream

Sweet lovers can decorate the liqueur with a scoop of ice cream.
The thick consistency will not allow the delicacy to drown; it will slowly melt, mixing with the alcoholic drink. When choosing a cold dessert, you should focus on the type of Baileys. The Original variety drink goes well with creamy ice cream, Mint Chocolate with mint or chocolate ice cream, Strawberries Cream with berry ice cream, etc.

Snacks

What's the best way to snack on Baileys? Like most liqueurs, Baileys can only be paired with certain foods. Selecting a snack that harmonizes with this liqueur is a separate issue. Baileys is often washed down with coffee and coffee-based drinks. To choose the right snack, start from the main component, that is, cream. Having the right starting point will help you avoid incongruous contrast. The most important rule to remember is that this liqueur goes worst with sour fruits, such as apples, cherries, and pineapple.
