The healing properties of cinnamon were known many centuries ago. This plant was mentioned in the ancient Indian treatise on longevity and health “Ayurveda” and in the Old Testament, as well as in the 17th century Russian medical book “Cool Vertograd”.

Moderate consumption of this spice has a beneficial effect on the body, strengthens the immune system, improves the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, acts as an excellent antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent, promotes concentration and helps fight depression.

The daily dose of cinnamon for an adult should be no more than 1/2 teaspoon. Large amounts of the spice can cause severe headaches, loss of energy, depression, and in some cases even liver problems.

Ways to add cinnamon to coffee

There are no special standards. Add whole sticks, pieces, or ground. Some coffee lovers put cinnamon in the coffee pot when preparing it, others sprinkle cinnamon on the espresso from the coffee machine. Sometimes the drink itself is stirred with a whole stick. The main thing is to like the taste; the method of preparation does not matter.

There are two types of cinnamon:

  1. Ceylon. Made from the bark of the Cinnamomum tree. It is light brown and thin. You won't find it in regular stores.
  2. Cassia. Our familiar cinnamon comes from China. The color is nice brown. This is what we sell in powder form. Cassia is more aromatic, which is what is often meant in recipes.

The amount to put depends on the type used. You can use a whole cinnamon stick when cooking, in this case you won’t be able to overdo it. The stick can also be placed in a ready-made latte or cappuccino, as well as in a cup of cold coffee.

It is also difficult to put a lot in the form of pieces. It is recommended to use from 2 to 4. You can put one large one.

Cinnamon powder should be used in a proportion of ¼ teaspoon per 100 ml of drink. Even smaller than a regular cup, on the tip of a knife.

You need to start with the bare minimum and add until you get the desired taste. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Recipes

Basic recipe

As you understand, the simplest one. To prepare you will need:

  • Ground coffee - level teaspoon ;
  • Water – 0.2 l;
  • Cinnamon stick, or powder on the tip of a knife;
  • Sugar - as much as you want.

First, place the grain powder, sugar and spice into the Turk. Turn the heat to moderate and warm up slightly. Now it's water's turn. Pour it in and wait for it to boil. Afterwards, pour part of the drink into a cup, and bring the rest to a boil again. Pour the drink into the cup again. Ready!

There is a second option. We wait for the foam to appear, remove the Turk and put it back on. We repeat this three times .

With cinnamon and milk

Milk and cinnamon are a good combination for treating a cold, and coffee will add tone. For preparation you need:

  • Freshly ground grains - a teaspoon;
  • Milk – 150 ml;
  • Water – 125 ml;
  • Cinnamon stick;
  • Sugar.

Cinnamon is poured all over the milk. Bring to a boil and wait another minute 2.

We put the powder in a Turk, fill it with water and wait until the foam rises. We remove and repeat the operation a couple more times. Mix milk with cinnamon and espresso. Add sugar. You can garnish the drink with another cinnamon stick.

Cinnamon and citrus

This is a very unusual version of the drink with an unusual taste, but it is also worth trying. So, for preparation you need:

  • The actual ground grains – a teaspoon ;
  • Orange and lemon zest - half a teaspoon each ;
  • Cinnamon - a third of a teaspoon;
  • Nutmeg – a small pinch;
  • Water – 0.2 l;
  • Sugar.

Place all ingredients (except sugar) in a copper pot. Warm it up slightly and add water. After bringing to a boil, wait another five . All that remains is to strain and add sugar.

Instant coffee with cinnamon

It is not always possible to brew a drink from freshly ground grains. But even instant coffee with cinnamon can turn out quite tasty. For preparation you need:

  • A couple of teaspoons of instant coffee;
  • 150 ml water;

Also quite unusual in taste, but interesting. This is double coffee, that is, coffee powder (or beans), brewed with black coffee. For preparation you need:

  • Black coffee – 200 ml;
  • 3 coffee beans (preferably robusta);
  • Rum – 10 ml;
  • Cinnamon - a little less than a teaspoon;
  • Seed of clove;
  • Sugar - teaspoon .

First, we brew the drink itself in a Turk. The method itself is described above. Heat a cup, add three robusta grains, rum, cloves and cinnamon. Pour in freshly brewed coffee, cover and leave for five . By the way, you can brew coffee not only in a Turkish coffee pot, but also in a coffee maker or French press. And yet, the best option is Turk. It was in it that the pirates probably brewed it, from whom we got this recipe.

In the French press

This is a fairly quick option that can be done even when not at work. Therefore, if possible, be sure to get yourself a French press. For preparation you need:

  • The drink itself (medium or fine grind);
  • Water – 0.2 l.
  • Cinnamon;
  • Milk (fat content 3,2%).

We boil water in a regular kettle, fill the French press, and cover it with a lid. We wait for the drink to brew. During this time you can boil the milk. First pour the coffee into the cup, then the milk itself. Add cinnamon and sugar. Ready. If you don't like your coffee too hot, you don't need to boil the milk.

You can experiment by frothing the milk in a French press or adding other spices.

Ice coffee

Cinnamon warms, but it is also suitable for cold versions of the drink. This will make it even more scorching. To prepare coffee ice with condensed milk and cinnamon, you need:

  • Strong dark roast coffee;
  • A dozen ice cubes;
  • Condensed milk – 20 g;
  • Ground cinnamon;
  • Fresh mint.

We brew the drink using a Turkish coffee pot or coffee maker. You need about 200 ml of drink. Fill a cocktail shaker with it (you can just use a thermal cup). Place cinnamon and condensed milk here and shake very well. Add half of all the ice and shake again for another couple of minutes .
Place the remaining ice in the glass and strain the espresso without the ice with which it was shaken.

Coffee with cinnamon and pepper

A quarter of a red pepper needs to be seeded. It's best to use gloves when handling peppers. Next, in a Turk without water, you need to heat 2 teaspoons of coffee, sugar and cinnamon. After this, you can pour water and prepare coffee in the standard way.

After coffee, you need to heat it up again and add a piece of pepper (¼ part). The drink should sit for a few minutes before you can drink it.

Cloves and alcohol - an unusual combination

Making coffee with cinnamon and cloves would be appropriate for friendly meetings. The drink can be brewed in a large saucepan for several people at once. To prepare it you will need coffee, a little coffee liqueur, a pinch of cinnamon, ice and cloves.

The drink is prepared in the usual way by brewing ground coffee beans in a Turk, adding sugar and a little clove to taste. The finished coffee should steep for 30 minutes, which is enough for it to cool completely. Before serving, add a little liqueur, a few ice cubes and a pinch of cinnamon to the drink. This cocktail quenches thirst well, tones up, lifts your spirits and is conducive to friendly communication.

Coffee with ginger and cinnamon

The drink is suitable for people who want to lose weight and who exercise. The drink tastes like a brewed herbal decoction; it is quite spicy, but spicy.

First, by peeling or grating vegetables, extract 0.5 teaspoon of zest. Can be used with lemon or orange.
