How to work with a cappuccino maker

Properly frothed milk gives us the drink that creates the taste of a soft, invigorating cappuccino or latte. In order to whip up a portion of milk and prepare a delicate foam, you will need:

  • pitcher - a steel jug for heating milk;
  • cappuccino maker - a small tap with a very narrow nozzle at the end. Steam is passed through it under high pressure, which froths the milk.

Remember that when working with a cappuccino maker, you will need to be very careful, as it is very easy to get burned by the steam.

So, the pitcher and milk should always be cold, so we take the jug out of the refrigerator and pour milk into it to the base of the spout - this is about half the volume. It is not recommended to pour less or more, since with a smaller volume the foam will turn out with huge bubbles, and with a larger volume there is a great danger that hot milk will simply pour out into your hands when foaming. Remember that we pour the milk exactly to the base of the spout - this is important.

Next, we lower the tip of the cappuccino maker literally 1 cm under the surface of the milk - this is also very important. It is necessary that the foam of the milk rises to one third of the contents.

There are three stages of beating:

  1. Rising: we must hold the tip of the cappuccino maker in such a way that frothing occurs and the milk rises. In this case, the cappuccino maker will make a characteristic squeal.
  2. Equalization: Off-center the cappuccino maker slightly to create a rotating motion that breaks up large bubbles, creating a fine foam texture.
  3. Heating: after foam has formed, lift the pitcher and hold it with your palm so that the spout of the cappuccino maker drops to the very bottom. At this moment, steam from the cappuccino maker heats the milk. We hold the jug in this position until the bottom of the pitcher begins to burn your palm - this is approximately 85°C. After which we must remove the cappuccino maker spout from the pitcher. To do this, first turn off the cappuccino maker , and only then remove the spout from the jug. Otherwise, there is a high chance that you will scald yourself with steam and spill hot milk.

It is recommended that immediately after whipping, wipe the cappuccino maker’s spout with a cloth and blow with steam to prevent the nozzle from becoming clogged with milk. The cappuccino maker is constantly heated, so if you leave milk on its surface, it will dry out very quickly and will impart bitterness to the next drink.

Types of coffee

All coffee drinks are prepared on the basis of one serving of espresso (30 ml), to which various ingredients are added. All additional components are also measured either in espresso shots or in milliliters.

So, here are the popular types of coffee:

  • Espresso. Standard coffee extraction.
  • Americano. Pour a shot of espresso into a cup, then add two shots of hot water.
  • Cappuccino. Pour a shot of espresso into a cup, then add frothed milk and foam.
  • Latte. First, whisk the milk in a pitcher and pour it into a cup. We give it time for the foam to rise and the frothed milk to settle a little. At this time we start brewing espresso. When both elements are ready, pour the espresso into the milk in a thin stream. Due to the different density of the drink, the coffee will “lie” between the milk and the foam. Thus, that same elegant layering is achieved.
  • Glyase. A double shot of espresso is poured into the cup, after which the ice cream sundae is added.
  • Raf. This time, instead of milk, pour cream into the pitcher and add a little sugar or topping. Brew espresso and add to the pitcher. Beat the mixture until foamy, then pour the resulting drink into a cup.

How to properly brew coffee without a Turk?

To make your coffee drink as thick and aromatic as Turkish coffee, you should follow simple rules :

  1. Choose the correct grind level . Fine and ultra-fine grinding is only suitable for Turkish grinding. When using other cooking methods, preference should be given to medium grinding.
  2. Use bottled or filtered water . A coffee drink prepared with hard tap water will be tasteless and unflavoured.
  3. Do not boil or brew with boiling water . Coffee does not tolerate high temperatures - when it boils, it loses not only its taste, but also its benefits. The optimal water temperature is 91-96°C, which corresponds to the temperature of boiling water that has cooled for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Choose the narrowest pan, cup or ladle . To prevent it from losing its aroma during the preparation process, the area of contact between coffee and air should be minimal.
  5. Remove extraneous odors from dishes . Before brewing, you need to boil water in a container or pour boiling water over the container. Preference should be given to enamel cookware - enamel practically does not accumulate odors from previously prepared food.
  6. Use dishes with thick walls and bottom . Thick-walled containers retain heat longer and brew better.

The best coffee for making a drink is freshly ground .
If it is not possible to purchase whole grains and grind them before brewing, you can buy ground in packs. Preference should be given to grains packed in vacuum briquettes - in such packaging the product is protected from exposure to oxygen and sunlight, and can be stored without loss of quality for up to 18 months. After opening the package, the ground powder should be stored in a tightly sealed glass jar .

Important! It is also necessary to monitor the shelf life of the product - over time, coffee “fizzles out”, old raw materials turn out to be sour and not at all aromatic.

Peanut coffee

Peanut butter can give the drink an unusual taste and aroma. Try it!

Ingredients:

  • Coffee – 2 tsp;
  • Water – 1 glass;
  • Milk – 1/2 cup;
  • Peanut butter – 20 grams;
  • Sugar - to taste.

Pour coffee and sugar into the pot, if adding. Heat until a slight aroma appears, add water and brew coffee. Pour into a cup. Add peanut butter and milk. Stir and serve.

Chocolate coffee with ice cream

Cinnamon, ice cream and chocolate are ideal additions to coffee.

You will need:

  • Coffee – 2 tsp;
  • Water – 1 glass;
  • Chocolate – 20 grams;
  • Ice cream – 20 grams;
  • Cinnamon – 1 pinch;
  • Sugar - to taste (optional).

Brew coffee, adding sugar if desired. Grate the chocolate on a fine grater and place half of it in a bowl. Pour in coffee. Place ice cream in a cup and add the other half of the chocolate. Serve the drink immediately.

Combination coffee maker

Combination coffee makers are actually two models in one. One is a drip coffee maker that can brew a whole liter of coffee, and the other can brew a cup of espresso. Combination coffee makers also have a separate device for frothing milk for cappuccino. Most likely, this coffee maker is suitable for those who cannot decide which coffee they like best: espresso or traditional. Combination coffee makers are very convenient in a small kitchen, as they save a lot of space.

A combination coffee maker is called a coffee machine and can be purchased at any hardware store.

But combination coffee makers have their drawbacks, the main one being that each part of the machine requires specific care and different types of ground coffee. In addition, such devices are not cheap: for the same money you can buy a very decent drip coffee maker and an espresso coffee maker separately.

Citrus espresso

A light lemon note perfectly refreshes morning coffee.

Ingredients:

  • Coffee – 2 tsp;
  • Water – 1 glass;
  • Lemon – 2 slices;
  • Sugar - to taste (optional).

Pour coffee into a pot, heat it up and fill it with water. Brew coffee, add sugar to taste. Squeeze the lemon juice and pour into a cup. Pour in the prepared coffee, stir and serve.

Honey raf

Sweet and rich coffee with milk.

You will need:

  • Coffee – 2 tsp;
  • Water – 100 grams;
  • Milk – 150 grams;
  • Honey – 20 grams.

Pour coffee into the pot, heat it up and fill it with water. Brew coffee, strain and pour into a cup. Add honey and stir. Heat the milk and whisk until fluffy. Pour the milk into the coffee and serve the drink.

In a cup

Brewing in a bowl is one of the simplest cooking methods that does not require the use of specialized equipment .

How to cook:

  1. Pour boiling water over the ceramic bowl and wipe dry.
  2. Add 2 teaspoons of crushed product.
  3. Pour 200 ml of hot water over the raw material and cover the cup with a saucer. You can brew it together with sugar - this way the grounds will settle to the bottom faster.
  4. After 4-5 minutes the drink is ready to drink.

In order for foam to form on the surface of the drink, the contents of the cup must not be stirred during brewing .
This method of brewing is inconvenient because the coffee grounds remain at the bottom of the bowl, and the drink cannot be mixed, for example, with milk or liqueur . To avoid this, you can use a special paper filter in the form of a funnel.

It is placed in a cup, poured into a coffee filter and filled with hot water. After brewing, the funnel is removed along with the grounds, and a clean drink without sediment remains in the bowl.

By the way! If there is no filter, the coffee brewed in a cup can be strained through a strainer.
