Invigorating coffee with a delicious aroma is drunk with or without sugar, piping hot and chilled, black and strong, with milk foam and topping. Coffee with ice cream is also a fairly common option. The bright coffee taste and the sweet, cold delicacy complement each other perfectly. This impossible combination of flavors and temperatures is appreciated by gourmets all over the world.

They began to combine such different components in the second half of the nineteenth century. According to one version, this happened in a Viennese coffee shop. Then the original recipe was picked up by the French. And from there he went for a walk around Europe.

This drink has only one drawback - calories. For example, a scoop of ice cream increases this figure by 115 kcal, and a teaspoon of syrup adds 15. A little more “weighs” the same amount of sugar - 20 kcal. Full-fat milk will add another 10-12 kcal per 20 milliliters. A similar volume of cream will “cost” about 25 kcal.

But sometimes you can and should treat yourself to something tasty. Moreover, caffeine weakens the effect of milk fats and sugar, providing a surge of vivacity and intellectual energy.

Italians traditionally consume affogato with or instead of lunch. This coffee perfectly replenishes energy and refreshes at the same time. This dessert can be used as a soft drink, a small snack, and even instead of an energy drink.

For coffee with ice cream, different types of decor are used:

  • chocolate or coconut shavings;
  • crushed cookies;
  • nut crumb;
  • slices of fruits and berries (or whole);
  • syrups and sweet sauces.

In some cases, alcohol may be included in the drink. A little liqueur, brandy, cognac or rum complements the taste of the dessert and its main components. The combinations of nut ice cream with Amaretto, and creamy ice cream with Baileys liqueur, have become almost classics.

Such non-classical recipes are no less popular than their “correct” relatives.

The history of an unusual combination

Coffee with ice cream began to be prepared in Austria, although the name itself is of French origin, because glace, which is the name of the drink, translated from French means cold or frozen.

Nothing is known about the reliability and truthfulness of the history of the appearance of the gaze. But history has it that 2-in-1 cool coffee was first served to Archduke Maximilian I by his personal chef. The royal person revered the invigorating drink very much and drank it too often. Once again, the Duke demanded to quickly serve him a cup of coffee, but the cook hesitated, and a piece of cold dessert - frozen orange in milk - accidentally fell into the cup with the drink. In order not to anger the ruler, the cook served him coffee in this form. The drink was to his taste and became a frequent guest on the Archduke’s table.

Soon the tradition of preparing iced coffee with dessert migrated to the people, acquired new interpretations and was called glace. This is how this word is spelled correctly, and not glasse, as many people mistakenly do.

But ice is not the only option for preparing a cold drink. What is another name for coffee with ice cream? This is an affogato, the preparation technology of which differs from the classical one. These two types of drinks have one thing in common - a combination of the invigorating effect of ground grains and the pleasant taste sensations of dessert. Undoubtedly, the calorie content of both is much higher than classic espresso and is approximately 125 kcal. Therefore, regularly drinking such delicious coffee is harmful to your figure.

During the preparation process, depending on the technology, ice cream can be placed first and poured over coffee, or vice versa, cold ice cream can be added to espresso. In addition to these two ingredients, chocolate, caramel, syrup, milk and even alcohol in the form of cognac can be used. Most espresso or latte recipes can be made at home.

Affogato – black coffee with ice cream

This Italian dessert is easy to make at home. Based on 2 servings, you need:

  • two balls of ice cream - 100 g;
  • hot espresso - 100 ml;
  • chocolate topping - 2 tsp;
  • chocolate chips for decoration.

Brew strong coffee and strain. Usually, sugar is not used to prepare the drink, but those with a sweet tooth can bypass this point. By the way, sugar will not remove the bitterness of coffee. Therefore, if you need to soften it, it is better to use fructose. You just need to take into account that its sweetness is more pronounced than that of sugar. That is, you need to add less of it.

The next step is to put a serving of ice cream in a bowl and pour hot espresso over it. But there is one caveat: if you make a hole in a scoop of ice cream and pour coffee into it in a gentle stream, you will get a creamy coffee cream sauce at the bottom of the cup.

One part of the drink flows over the ice cream, softening it. The other will remain in the recess, slightly increasing its size and cooling inside the ball.

All that remains is to add the topping and chocolate decor.

If you intend to use alcohol, then first pour a small amount of liqueur or cognac (10 ml) onto the bottom. Then the creation of the dessert proceeds in the usual way.

It is best to serve affogato in portioned ceramic bowls. Thick walls are more effective at maintaining the enticing temperature differences between ingredients. If you don’t have special utensils, you can get by with regular cups. There are spoons for dessert.

The right affogato recipe

  • Double espresso;
  • Ice cream ball;
  • Liqueur or white port, 15 ml.

Cooking

  1. Affogato is easy and quick to prepare. Place a clear glass or glass in the freezer to chill it. Place the frozen ball in a glass and fill it with freshly prepared espresso.
  2. Alternatively, you can add a tablespoon of flavored liqueur or light port, but if you plan to drive, you may want to skip the alcohol.

Many years have passed since then, but in the heat it is still a pleasure to cool off with a glass of ice cream. There are plenty of types of this drink. But they all maintain a 3:1 ratio of coffee and ice cream.

Usually espresso is used as a basis, but you can prepare coffee of the type you like.

If your preference is on the side of sweet coffee, then it is better to use syrups (vanilla is an option) - sugar has poor solubility in a chilled drink. But, if you still want to use sugar, then it is better to do this during the cooking process.

Few ingredients:

  • 150 ml of ready-made coffee;
  • 40 milliliters of 10% fat cream;
  • 1 ice cream ball.

First, prepare the espresso (sugar is optional). Stir the cream into it. When the drink has cooled, pour it into the prepared glass and finish off the dessert with a serving of ice cream. You can sprinkle ground cinnamon, cocoa or chocolate shavings on top.

Results and recommendations

  • To ensure that the coffee is immediately sweet when brewing, add honey or chocolate to the coffee pot;

This is an original coffee dessert with an interesting taste. It will require:

  • chilled ready-made coffee - 200 ml;
  • creme brulee (or butter) - 100 gr.;
  • cream - 50 ml;
  • granulated sugar.

To prepare caramel sauce, you need to take:

  • heavy cream (at least 30%) - 100 ml;
  • good butter - 100 g;
  • granulated sugar - 230 gr.;
  • water - about 60 ml.

The butter and cream for the sauce should be at room temperature. In a thick-bottomed bowl, heat the sugar and water over low heat. There is no need to stir the syrup, just shake the saucepan. Boil until the mixture turns golden and thickens.

If the sauce is bitter, it means it was overheated. If it’s a bit runny, it’s been cooked for less time than needed.

Then, cream and butter are mixed into the caramel removed from the stove, patiently bringing it to homogeneity. As it cools, the sauce becomes thick.

Now let's get to the coffee. Cook and let cool. Add sugar if desired.

Place some of the ice cream (about half) into the prepared glasses, add cooled coffee and cream. The second half of creme brulee completes the dessert. Pour the resulting caramel sauce over it all.

With orange liqueur

Orange and milk don't go well together, but if it's ice cream and liqueur (or syrup) that's a different matter:

  • Coffee;
  • Orange liqueur;
  • More ice cream;
  • Orange zest or candied fruits - if possible and desired.

Cooking

  1. Place ice cream in a cold Americano, pour liqueur on top, and garnish with zest or candied fruits. Serve with a spoon and straw.

Coffee with ice cream and cinnamon

This drink is drunk both hot and chilled. In both cases we get an original, unique taste.

  • 60 ml strong espresso or Turkish coffee, strained;
  • 4 tablespoons vanilla ice cream or ice cream;
  • 1 teaspoon grated chocolate.

First, remove the ice cream from the freezer. Use a deep tablespoon or a special shaped spoon to scoop it up and place it in a bowl or large glass. Ingredients:

  • 200 ml cherry syrup, it will replace coffee, but you can reduce the amount of syrup by 50 ml by replacing this part with espresso;
  • 300 ml milk, fat content 3.2%;
  • 300 ml cream, fat content 15 - 20%;
  • 70 g sugar;
  • 1 egg;
  • 1 tablespoon flour;
  • ¼ teaspoon salt;
  • ¼ teaspoon vanillin;
  • fresh or frozen pitted cherries for decoration.

Manufacturing:

We make our own ice cream, i.e. gelato. Gradually pour flour into a saucepan with milk and stir over low heat, add vanillin there. When you get a homogeneous mass, remove the pan from the heat and wait until the contents cool to room temperature. Beat the egg until foamy, slowly add sugar and salt. Combine the mixture with cooled milk and flour. Place on the stove and, stirring slowly, bring to a boil. Let cool.

Whip the cream into a thick foam. Combine with cooled milk soufflé. Place the finished product in the freezer for at least 3 hours. We get real, delicious ice cream. Form balls with a spoon and place in a bowl. Drizzle with cherry syrup and decorate with cherries.

Matcha affogato

In the matcha affogato recipe, the role of coffee will be played by its worthy substitute - matcha green tea powder. It goes well with milk and ice cream, making the dessert tender and healthy.

Information: A wonderful matcha latte is prepared using Japanese powdered tea - whipped green powder is added to the frothed milk. Matcha has many advantages that are comparable to coffee benefits. It perfectly invigorates, stimulates the body, increases the level of immune defense, and normalizes metabolism. The product is widely used as a food additive in cooking.

Ingredients:

  • 2 g matcha powder is about 1 full teaspoon;
  • ½ cup hot water;
