What are the benefits of coffee facial scrub? ↑
I hope women don’t need to explain what a scrub is? Although I’ll probably remind you. This is a product for mechanical cleansing of the surface layers of the skin due to small particles, which does not affect the deep ones. The scrub works at the level of the keratinization layer; it helps dead cells “come off” from the skin faster, providing space for new cells. There is also the concept of peeling, but this is a different procedure, which I will talk about in the next article, so subscribe to updates so as not to miss it.
The benefits of coffee scrub are explained by the unique composition of coffee beans, which includes not only caffeine. Coffee contains alkaloids - caffeine and trigoneline. The first has a tonic effect, the second is responsible for the unforgettable aroma. In addition to these substances, the grains include:
- vitamin P
- 8 B vitamins
- organic acids (malic, citric, acetic and chlorogenic acids)
- tanning agents
- microelements
Caffeine directly has a tonic effect on the skin of the face and a lifting effect, i.e. tightening. It reduces puffiness and bags under the eyes, thanks to its ability to remove excess fluid. Stimulates lymphatic drainage and eliminates toxins accumulated during the day. Caffeine acts not only superficially, but also penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin, exerting its peripheral vasodilatory effects there. The skin is actively supplied with blood, saturated with substances useful for its life. The result of the procedure is elastic and tightened skin.
Organic acids act as a light chemical peel , stimulating the renewal of the surface layers of the skin. And chlorogenic acid is a powerful antioxidant, protecting the skin from the effects of aggressive environmental influences.
Vitamins and minerals are involved in the life of every cell of our body, including the skin, so they will never be superfluous. Tanning substances seem to tighten the skin, thereby smoothing out fine wrinkles and uneven surfaces of the facial skin.
In addition, the scrub mechanically exfoliates dead cells, because we use fine particles of ground coffee that gently scrub the surface of the skin, stimulating cell renewal. You can enhance the effect of a coffee scrub by adding other components, but we will talk about them a little later. The result of this exfoliation is smooth and silky facial skin.
Coffee for face and body is a miracle cure!
The undoubted advantage of masks using crushed coffee beans is the active moisturizing of the skin. Gentle peeling, which occurs as a result of applying the mixture to the face, neck and décolleté, helps renew the epidermis. Caffeine tends to actively break down fats and tone the skin.
Coffee masks are indicated for sagging skin, signs of age-related changes, teenage acne and swelling. Immediately after the coffee procedure, the skin color becomes radiant and fresh, with a slight tan.
What kind of coffee should you use for your scrub? ↑
While preparing material for this article, I discovered that women use different options. I have highlighted three:
- natural ground coffee
- instant coffee
- leftover coffee from the coffee machine
- coffee grounds or coffee grounds
What coffee is best to use to scrub such a delicate part of the body? I am inclined that a scrub made from natural freshly ground coffee will be the most useful, but the grind should be fine enough not to damage thin skin. And now I will explain why I think so.
Instant coffee is not real coffee. Unfortunately, this is a crude surrogate for coffee, just as tea bags cannot be real tea. Instant coffee contains a lot of artificially added chemicals that can harm delicate skin. So I never recommend using instant coffee not only internally, but also externally.
The remains of coffee cake from a coffee machine will also not bring anything good, since the coffee for these machines is also not entirely natural, and, besides, everything that was useful and harmful has already passed into the cup in the form of a drink. Therefore, apart from the scrubbing effect, this version of the scrub will not give anything.
Some people try to use coffee grounds after the drink itself has already been drunk. The process of preparing even high-quality natural coffee involves heating or boiling, and when heated, all the beneficial substances are transferred into the water, and the concentration in the grounds is very small. Therefore, this option is also not suitable, since it provides little benefit.
My dears, use only natural coffee for the scrub, and it will be ideal if you grind it right before the procedure. Do not buy already ground coffee in stores, as they add harmful substances. Buy only beans, maybe even green ones, and roast them at home, but you will be absolutely sure that they do not contain additional unnecessary chemicals. Take care of your face and body!

How to make a coffee scrub at home? ↑
A coffee-based face scrub can be made with your own hands at home, just like clay masks . They don't require special skills or ingredients that are hard to find. And such a scrub will turn out much cheaper than a store-bought one. But another plus to everything is that it will be natural, which means that problems of allergic reactions are unlikely to arise. Here are a few rules for making a homemade scrub.
- It is much healthier to use homemade freshly ground coffee. You can take the grounds of a drink you have already drunk, but the concentration of nutrients there will be small.
- Using instant coffee will not bring the desired effect. This kind of coffee can even stain your skin, and it’s not a fact that it will be even and beautiful.
- The scrub should also include other components that soften the procedure. It can be oils, honey and even sour cream.
- To enhance the scrubbing effect, some ladies add sea salt, but this recipe is more suitable for the body, not the face. I do not recommend.
- Check the scrub for allergies. To do this, apply the finished scrub to the inner surface of the forearm and leave for 20-30 minutes. Then rinse off and look for redness and blisters.
Let's look at the actual recipes for homemade coffee scrubs. It is very important to choose the right additional component depending on your skin type. What is suitable for oily skin will be disastrous for dry skin.
Contraindications
Coffee for the face can only be used if you are completely sure that there is no allergy.
Attention! Before the first application of a composition based on coffee grounds, it is necessary to conduct a rapid test for the presence of an allergic reaction. To do this, apply a small amount of the product to the area behind the ear or wrist. If after 15-20 minutes no swelling, rashes or redness are detected, you can safely use the mask.
Contraindications to peeling coffee grounds at home are all types of skin diseases, especially during exacerbations. For example, psoriasis, herpes or open festering wounds.
If you are prone to allergies, you should avoid using coffee masks.

Useful tips for using masks
Coffee grounds for a mask can be used at any age and with any type of aging. To enhance the anti-aging effect, it is recommended to follow a number of rules:
- Coffee masks should be applied only to cleansed, pre-steamed facial skin;
- The mixture must be applied immediately after preparation in a warm state;
- Due to the pronounced tonic effect of coffee beans, morning time is preferable for such procedures;
- The composition should be washed off after complete drying, as evidenced by slight tightness of the skin. As for masks with oils, their action time is no more than 15-20 minutes;
- It is strongly recommended to mix coffee only with ingredients of natural origin - butter, milk, salt, clay, honey;
- Fresh ground grain powder is more suitable for scrubbing, and dried grounds are more suitable for masks. During the procedure, you need to massage the skin along massage lines with light stroking movements;
- A slight tingling sensation during the procedure indicates the effective effect of the composition on the skin. In case of severe discomfort, burning and itching, immediately wash off the product using a cleansing tonic.
Contraindications to the use of coffee facial scrubs ↑
The most important contraindication is, of course, an allergic reaction to coffee. If available, use coarse salt or sugar as an abrasive. Serious inflammatory processes on the face, purulent boils and pimples, and cancer are also considered contraindications. Believe me, a coffee scrub will not help here; you need to turn to specialists for help.
Side effects may include a reaction to any additional component used in the scrub, so always do a test on your hand. Too large particles of coffee can injure the skin and cause inflammation, which is a nuisance. Therefore, make sure that the coffee is ground finely enough so as not to scratch the delicate skin of your face.
Coffee for teenage skin - can coffee cause acne?
The external influence of coffee on teenage facial skin is predominantly positive. A coffee mask will not only get rid of acne, but will also give the skin the matte look desired during adolescence. Therefore, it is worth considering your skin type when preparing the composition. Young girls are advised to first steam their face over a bowl of hot water (even better with chamomile infusion, for example). This will open up the pores more, and the anti-acne mask will work faster.
The answer to the question whether coffee can cause acne is quite simple to answer. If you drink in large quantities - yes, if used as a cosmetic - no.
How often to scrub and how to store the finished scrub? ↑
Cosmetologists do not recommend using a scrub more than twice a week. I believe that once every 2 weeks is enough to keep the skin healthy. If you do it more often, serious trauma to the surface layers of the skin occurs and don’t expect anything good from it. In this case, more is the enemy of good.
The finished scrub should be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 2 weeks. Some recommend up to a month, but I am still inclined that this is a lot and during this time not only will there be no useful substances left in the homemade scrub, but also harmful bacteria will appear that can get into microscratches and cause inflammation during the next procedure. I always try to make it fresh, it’s much more effective and flavorful!
Beneficial properties of coffee
Coffee beans are rich in vitamins and microelements that are vital for healthy and beautiful skin. In addition, the high caffeine content has a strong tonic effect. A coffee face mask prepared at home quickly provides a noticeable improvement in skin condition:
- activates blood circulation;
- speeds up metabolism;
- promotes the elimination of toxins;
- slows down the aging process;
- smoothes out small wrinkles;
- relieves swelling and inflammation;
- strengthens capillary walls;
- protects against exposure to UV rays;
- removes dead cells;
- refreshes complexion;
- tightens the oval;
- increases skin firmness and elasticity;
- improves complexion.
However, caffeine can increase blood pressure. Therefore, people suffering from hypertension should use coffee masks no more than 1-2 times a week.
