Origin of Kopi Luwak
This type of coffee is made not by people, but by animals. They are called musang (palm civet). There are several legends about the origin of the kopi luwak variety. The most popular story tells that on the plantations of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, colonial Europeans took a coffee tax from the aborigines. Plus, palm civet animals began to eat precious coffee berries, ruining the indigenous people. To preserve the harvest, local residents tried various ways to fight civets. One day, one of the aborigines decided to wash, dry, roast and brew coffee beans that were found in animal droppings. The drink turned out to be very tasty and aromatic.
