Many people like its tart and aromatic taste, because it is not for nothing that it is considered the drink of the gods, but among its types in our country they prefer instant. The topic of this article will be Jacobs Monarch coffee, a photo of which is presented below.
History of the brand
Back in 1985, the history of the company began, which today has been on the market for more than 120 years. A shop was opened in Bremen that, in addition to coffee, sold various types of tea and sweets. Only a few decades later a bean roasting plant was opened in Bremen.
Two years later, the Jacobs Kaffee trademark was registered; after this event, all brand products began to be produced in branded packaging, which depicts a bag filled with coffee beans.
During the First World War, the company almost closed, they had to switch to producing more necessary goods at that time, such as various cereals and sugar. When the war ended, the need for coffee products increased again. Jacobs began to be recognized throughout Germany and imported into other countries. By the end of the 20th century, the Jacobs Monarch brand was owned by Kraft Foods. It was after this event that the packaging acquired a green color.
Today, the Jacobs brand belongs to the huge global corporation Jacobs Douwe Egberts, with JDE's head office located in the Netherlands.
It is the second largest coffee company, with 40% of the market.
History of origin
This German coffee brand was founded in 1895 by entrepreneur Johann Jacobs. It all started when, at the age of 26, he decided to open a store selling biscuits, chocolate, tea and coffee: this year began to be considered the date of the creation of the brand. In 1913, the brand was officially registered. A large coffee roaster was opened in Bremen by him and his son in 1934, and delivery by branded vehicles to the city’s stores was also organized.
By the way, the founder of the brand loved this drink very much, and in this regard, the school teacher joked about this that if he had such a love for coffee, then maybe he should make money from it. Who would have thought then that these words would soon come true. The company was repeatedly on the verge of bankruptcy, but the talent of the entrepreneur allowed Johann Jacobs to prevent the business from going under. The successful development of the business was also facilitated by the competent strategy of his son Walter.
The Jacobs coffee brand was introduced to the Russian market in 1994. Several types of it are sold in our country, including Monarch, which we will talk about in this article. Currently, the brand belongs to the Kraft Foods concern, which is the largest producer of instant freeze-dried coffee.
Production
In Russia, in the early 2000s, a branded product was opened, imported from the Netherlands. The company works with two varieties: robusta and arabica. They are imported from Asia and Latin America and create their own incomparable mixtures on the spot.
Products are made differently for different markets, so if you come across Jacobs coffee not made in Russia, the tastes may differ
The plant carries out such production processes as primary roasting of green beans, powder extraction, deep freezing and then vacuum drying of the resulting extract. High quality products were achieved by the company through the introduction of the latest technologies in manufacturing.
Coffee is available in different types, which gives the consumer a wide choice. It is worth mentioning that if you purchase coffee in soft packaging and not in glass, then after opening it is better to immediately pour it into a jar with a tight-fitting lid, otherwise the coffee will quickly lose its unique aroma. Below are all the types of coffee that Jacobs creates, perhaps in the future there will be even more.
Soluble
This type of Jacobs Monarch coffee is freeze-dried, meaning it is freeze-dried, making production more energy-intensive than the granulated variety. When brewing, the fullness of taste and aroma, which is hidden behind the soluble shell, is revealed. Each granule contains natural ultra-fine ground coffee. Thanks to advanced production technology, instant coffee retains the attractive aroma and unique taste of properly roasted coffee beans.
At the beginning of the production process, essential oils are extracted from the beans, which are then quickly frozen under vacuum, and the remaining coffee mass is broken into pyramid granules. Finally, the extracted essential oils must be returned to the grains. Instant Jacobs Monarch confidently occupies the top position in the freeze-dried coffee segment.
Jacobs Monarch beans
This is a mixture of two varieties of coffee beans, Arabica and Robusta. These varieties combine perfectly with each other and make the drink more delicate and soft, as well as a delicate aroma. Medium doneness and a refined aftertaste. If you have the ability to grind coffee beans at home, this is definitely an option worth choosing. You will enjoy the incomparable smell of freshly ground coffee.
They also sell coffee machines that are specifically designed for pouring beans.
Arabica gives the drink a slight sourness, and robusta adds strength.
Innovative solution
Often you want to drink freshly ground coffee, but the necessary conditions for preparing it are not always available. In order to experience the full taste of the drink and at the same time not experience difficulties in preparing it, they created a form such as ground in soluble form. What does this mean? Ground coffee particles are enclosed in soluble microgranules, so it cooks quickly and there are no insoluble particles left in it. It may not completely replace freshly prepared coffee beans, but in taste and aroma it will be close to what the barista prepares. Such a drink is Jacobs Monarch Millicano.
Compared to instant Jacobs Monarch, the granules here are smaller, it is stronger, as it contains more caffeine, and the aroma is even brighter and more intense. According to consumer reviews, its taste is somewhat sour, there is a sediment, but it is practically unnoticeable. Moreover, its price is higher than that of instant Jacobs.
Monarch Millicano is a revolutionary new product that combines all the advantages of the drink in one. Selected coffee beans undergo an ultra-fine grinding process, resulting in grains that are twice as fine as instant coffee.
Milicano
The Milicano variety is produced using the new Milicano technology
and is suitable for those who cannot decide between ground and instant coffee. Millicano comes in the form of innovative capsules, leaving all the sediment at the bottom of the cup and imparting an unsurpassed taste to the drink. You will get natural taste in seconds.
Interestingly, it was the Jacobs company that first proposed mixing natural coffee with instant coffee.

Thus, everyone can find something of their own in the presented assortment. The main options are grain, ground, instant, and ground in instant form. They are also available in portioned versions - stick bags, which are designed for one serving. Ground in instant
Along with instant, freeze-dried, ground and grain products, Millicano coffee has recently appeared on the market, which is positioned as ground and instant. How to understand this?
Millicano is a completely new take on coffee, which combines the properties of a freeze-dried instant product with the taste and aroma of ground coffee. This result is achieved thanks to new technology of grinding and sublimation.
The coffee production process goes through the following stages:
- roasting coffee beans;
- partial freezing and drying under vacuum conditions;
- partial ultrafine grinding of roasted beans;
- connection and sublimation.
Saturation technology allows you to correctly combine ground coffee with instant coffee.
For a freeze-dried drink, high-quality coffee beans are taken. It can be 100% Arabica, a mixture of Arabica and Robusta, or a combination of different varieties of beans of the same type, called a blend. Depending on the desired properties of the final product, the grains are roasted at different temperatures. So, to obtain a strong drink with a pronounced bitterness, the grains are subjected to black or very strong roasting at especially high temperatures. For a more delicate taste and light sourness, use a medium degree of roasting. It has long been known that the longer the heat treatment process and the higher the temperature, the more intense the process of releasing aromatic oils onto the surface of the grain occurs, which means that the drink made from such a product will be the most aromatic, although not everyone may like its strength and bitterness. Such beans are used to prepare the most invigorating espresso.
Jacobs Millicano coffee can be made from medium to deep roast beans. After roasting, one part of them is subjected to ultra-fine grinding, as they say - almost into dust. The second part is also crushed, frozen with water and dried under vacuum conditions. Next, both types of processed grains are combined with each other to obtain instant freeze-dried granules. By the sediment at the bottom of the cup after preparing such coffee, you can understand that the granules actually contained natural ground coffee.
