The simplest one is insistence
It does not require any special skills, tricks or equipment. All you need is ground coffee, any container, cold water and a few hours. The algorithm is extremely simple:
- grind the grains;
- pour the powder into the container;
- fill with cold water;
- let it brew for 10-24 hours;
- strain;
- enjoy an unusual drink.
To this day, the question of the ideal proportion of ground coffee and water remains open. The saturation of the final liquid directly depends on these numbers. In fact, this is not so important, because the resulting coffee concentrate can be diluted to any consistency.
One of the classic recipes suggests the following ratio: half a liter of clean cold water per 100 grams of ground grains. However, the authors do not object to increasing the amount of water to a liter. The infusion time also varies (from 12 hours to 2 days).
Greater importance is attached to the choice of coffee beans. It is believed that the best option is single-origin coffee with a light or medium roast. It is thanks to light roasting that it is possible to extract the maximum of useful and aromatic substances by infusing in cold water. You need a coarse or medium grind; fine grinding will be difficult to filter.
It is very convenient to use a French press for this method. In this case, you do not need separate containers for filtering; you can simply lower the piston into the brewed coffee and pour the finished concentrate into a cup or bottle for storage.
By the way, about storage. Infusion allows you to get a fairly large amount of coffee “at once”. It can be poured into a jar or bottle and stored in the refrigerator for several days.
Cold brew - drip method
The classic design for preparing a drink using the drip method includes three containers:
- for clean cold water;
- for ground coffee;
- for the finished concentrate.
This method is also time consuming. Cold water slowly drips into the coffee, slowly passes through it and drips into the lower container. Straining through a layer of coffee powder, water draws out and washes out valuable chemical compounds from it: caffeine, acids, vitamins and minerals, aromatic substances.
The result of this leisurely procedure is a drink with a high concentration and a very mild taste.
You can build a device for drip preparation at home using available materials. To do this, you need to take a glass jar, a plastic bottle (1.5-2 liters), felt and filter bags. You need to cut off the bottom of a clean plastic bottle, plug the neck with felt and place it in a glass jar with the neck down. Ground coffee (150-200 grams) should be placed in filters, tied and placed in a plastic bottle, and then filled with 6-7 cups of cold water. The entire structure should be left in a cool and dark place for 12-24 hours. During this time, the drink will infuse and gradually strain through felt into a glass jar.
